What is Tokamak?
Tokamak is a macOS menu bar app that monitors your Claude Max and Claude Pro subscription quota in real time. It reads usage data from claude.ai and local Claude Code session files to give you a clear picture of your remaining quota, token velocity, and session history — all without leaving your desktop.
Features
- Real-time quota monitoring — 5-hour and 7-day usage windows, always visible in your menu bar
- Token velocity — sparkline chart showing your consumption speed and trend
- Session tracking — token counts, model usage, and duration for your Claude Code sessions
- Gamified dashboard — achievements, streaks, records, and a Doom-inspired quota widget
- Smart notifications — alerts at 80%, 95%, and 100% quota thresholds
- Battery-aware polling — automatically reduces update frequency on battery power
- Zero data collection — no telemetry, no analytics, no tracking. Everything stays on your Mac.
Requirements
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
- An active Claude Pro or Claude Max subscription
- Claude Code (optional, for session stats and token tracking)
Getting Started

- Click the icon and sign in with your claude.ai account
- Your quota appears immediately after login
To enable Claude Code session tracking, click “Connect Claude Code” in the sessions section and select your ~/.claude/ directory when prompted.
FAQ
Does Tokamak access my Claude conversations? No. Tokamak only reads quota percentages and token counts. It never reads, stores, or transmits the content of your conversations.
Does Tokamak send my data anywhere?
No. The only network request is to claude.ai to read your quota. There is no telemetry, analytics, or third-party service of any kind. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I use Tokamak with a free Claude account? No. Quota monitoring requires a paid subscription (Claude Pro or Claude Max).
How often does Tokamak check my quota? Every 30 seconds when active, with automatic backoff on errors or battery power.
